W. Arthur Lewis in retrospect
This paper reviews several themes from the writings of W. Arthur Lewis, both the first black Nobel Laureate in Economics and the first from a developing country, and examines them from the perspective of two to five decades of hindsight. The paper emphasizes three main interrelated aspects; economic growth, economic dualism, and “the evolution of the economic order” – the forces that drive the ...
متن کاملDeficiency of the Gross - Llewellyn Smith Sum Rule and Qcd Vacuum Polarization Effect
From the analysis of the recent CCFR Collaboration data for the structure function xF3(x,Q ) (0.015 < x < 0.65 and 1.2 GeV 2 < |Q| < 501 GeV ) of the deep inelastic neutrino nucleon scattering we conclude that probably part of the nucleon baryon number is due to the vacuum polarization effects. The deep inelastic lepton nucleon scattering processes (DIS) occurring at small distances characteriz...
متن کاملThe Gross–Llewellyn Smith Sum Rule in the Analytic Approach to Perturbative QCD
We apply analytic perturbation theory to the Gross–Llewellyn Smith sum rule. We study the Q2 evolution and the renormalization scheme dependence of the analytic three-loop QCD correction to this sum rule, and demonstrate that the results are practically renormalization scheme independent and lead to rather different Q2 evolution than the standard perturbative correction possesses. PACS: 11.10.H...
متن کاملQuark Mass Corrections to the Bjorken and Gross–Llewellyn-Smith Sum Rules
Quark mass corrections to the spin partonic structure function g1(x,Q 2) and function F3(x,Q 2) are obtained at the order O(αs) along with the coefficient functions C(A) and C(V ) related to the Bjorken and Gross–Llewellyn-Smith sum rules. In the massless limit the difference between F3 and g1 is encountered to be (αs/π)CF (1− x). The results for the functions C(A) and C(V ) at m = 0 agree with...
متن کاملCommentary / Llewellyn : Elaborative encoding
Although the analogy between dreams and ancient mnemotechniques is tempting because they share several phenomenological characteristics, this analogy is superficial at a closer look. Unlike mneomotechnically encoded material, rapid eye movement (REM) dreams are inherently difficult to remember, do not usually allow conscious subsequent retrieval of all interconnected elements, and have been fou...
